CityGuide DMS - Documentation - Measuring

 
Within the "measuring-mode" of CityGuide DMS you have access to the following tools: Distance, Ellipse, Rectangle and Polygon. Additionally, you will be given detailed information about the distance, size and surface of your figure, all displayed within the map window in currently chosen units.
 

Within this mode you have no access to the navigation functions of your mouse. In order to move around you will have to revert to keyboard input instead.
 

To activate this mode, select one of the following functions under the "Measure" entry on your menu bar:
 

 
Once the mode is activated, you will be given the results of your currently chosen tool in the toolbar of the upper part of your map window:
 


 

  • xØ : Diameter of the x-axis of your figure (only applies to rectangle and ellipse)
  • yØ : Diameter of the y-axis of your figure (only applies to rectangle and ellipse)
  • Length: Length of the figure (only applicable to distances)
  • Radius: Total length (circumference) of the radius of the figure
  • Surface: Surface of the figure (not applicable to distances)

 
With the individual switches on the toolbar you can choose a certain function or delete the current function.

 
 
 
 Measuring - Determine Units

 
Units for calculations relevant to your currently chosen measure function can optionally be metric meters or metric kilometers.

 
In order to set the desired units, simply select the appropriate option from the "Measuring" entry on your menu bar:
 

 
 
 
 Measuring - Draw Distance

 
A distance in CityGuide DMS can be measured as follows:
 

  • Left-click on the map window in order to set a new point for your measured distance.
  • Rightclick on the map window in order to delete the last inserted waypoint.
  • Release the mouse button.

  • By grabbing the black colored waypoints you may alter every stage of this distance individually.
  • Press the [Del]-Key in order to remove the current distance.
     
 
 
 Measuring - Ellipse

 
An ellipsoid in CityGuide DMS is measured in the following way:
 

  • Left-click on the map window and continue to hold down the mouse button.
  • Continue to expand the ellipse by moving the mouse to the lower right hand side. When pressing the [Ctrl]-key at the same time the ellipse will originate in the center of the map window, otherwise it will originate in the upper left. When pressing the [SHIFT]-key at the same time, your ellipse will expand equally throughout the map window.
  • Release the mouse button.

  • By grabbing the black colored handles you can shape width and height of your ellipse to your liking.
  • By grabbing the red handle in the center of your ellipse you can move it across the map.
  • Rightclick on the map window or press the [Del]-key in order to delete the ellipsoid.
     
 
 
 Measuring - Rectangles

 
A rectangle in CityGuide DMS is measured in the following way:
 

  • Left-click on the map window and continue to hold down the mouse button.
  • Continue to expand the rectangle by moving the mouse to the lower right hand side. When pressing the [Ctrl]-key at the same time the rectangle will originate in the center of the map window, otherwise it will originate in the upper left. When pressing the [SHIFT]-key at the same time, your rectangle will expand equally throughout the map window.
  • Release the mouse button.
  • By grabbing the black colored handles you can shape width and height of your rectangle to your liking.
  • By grabbing the red handle in the center of your rectangle you can move it across the map.
  • Rightclick on the map window or press the [Del]-key in order to delete the rectangle.
     
 
 
 Measuring - Polygons

 
A polygon in CityGuide DMS is measured in the following way:
 

  • Left-click on the map window in order to create a new starting point for your polygon.
  • Right-click on the map window in order to delete the most recently inserted point.
  • Release the mouse button.

  • By grabbing the black colored handles you can shape the polygon subsequently to your liking.
  • By grabbing the red colored handle in the center of your figure you can move it across the map.
  • Rightclick on the map window or press the [Del]-key in order to delete the figure.
